Creation Care

As a community, it is important to us that we are good stewards of the earth.  Through education, Bible study, and action, the people at Fairmount Avenue UMC are working to reduce our impact on the earth.  We believe our faith calls us to care for the earth and the life on it, including responding to the climate crisis. We do this through practical actions, support of systemic change, and study and prayer. Examples of current and past initiatives:

• Installing new more energy efficient windows and LED lighting
• Setting up recycling and food waste composting for the building
• Using compostable dishes when not washing dishes
• Community bike rides and “Know Your Biker” newsletter features
• Adopting five storm drains near the church - sign up to help for a month
• Educational opportunities such as book discussions

Adopt a Storm Drain Program

Fairmount Avenue UMC has adopted five drains surrounding the church and we are committed to keeping them clean of debris - protecting our waterways and the Mississippi River as well as keeping our neighborhood clean. Supplies for keeping the drains clean are provided at the church. Click on the link below to sign up as a volunteer.
